or does the doctor do it, i just don't know if i could live with myself for killing an animal even though its the right thing to do

Generally no.... however, to be a vet asst. you will have to grow some thicker skin. You will see a lot of suffering animals and if you have too soft a heart you will not do the job very well.

i interned for a vet once, and the vet tech helped her do it & then put it in the freezer it was so, so sad. he was a really big dog that was 12 or 13, and he would collapse on his walks & they had to rescue him, and he was just too sick & old. so the answer is yes, you have to do a lot of it. i couldn't handle it either. i love animals too much.

Yes that is part of their job if the doctor assigns you to do it.
