My friend has a fixed up turbodiesel with 650 Hp and about 1200 Lb torque. A Corvette has 400 Hp and torque.

The torque-to-weight ratio of the diesel is 5.7
The torque-to-weight ratio on Corvette is 8.3 (worse)

So if he reved up the Diesel to max torque before launch and the Corvette too, who would go off the line faster?

The diesel has a racing tranny, not pulling

Torque = acceleration
Hp = speed.

At the line the truck would be at max torque at about 2500 rpm but max hp at 4500. The vette would have to work up to max torque, about 4500 and max hp at 6000.

Based on this theory I'd bet the truck off the line first. You can't pop the vette at over 4500 rpm 'cause the tires are sure to slip. But the 2500 (or less) of the truck would probably have all the traction in the world and all the power would be fully used.

After a 1/4 mile I'd bet on the vette. Gas engines are very efficient at high rpm's. Once it get's into it's power band it'll shift gears faster than the truck and reach top speed sooner.

I don't know about that previous answer My old 454 suburban really put down 60 foot times. I would go with weight over the back wheels here and massive power and 4.11 to 1 axle ratio....But at 120 feet when MY 421 rear axle horse power 2006 GTO or his Corvette flys past to a 12.5 quarter mile to the trucks 16 second pass. Weight is an enemy to speed after the traffic light.

Turbo lag and tire traction come into play. I say Corvette.

hmm well I need to know the weight ratio, ages of vehicles, all sorts of factors. But if they were the same (doubt it) but if they were, the turbodiesel.
