Apple--coolest choice but since their write their own OS, not all software works. Also expensive.
Sony--next coolest choice but also most expensive and most difficult to service if it breaks down. Trust me, I worked for them and the repair process is poor.
Panasonic--really good if you want a tough notebook. They have the best. Other than that, stay away.
Dell--Boring (unless you get their gaming laptop) but best price for the money. However, you should keep in mind that if you have a problem, their customer service is outsourced to India so you will have to take all your problems through India.
My preference would be style over cost: Apple or Sony
Durability: Panasonic ToughBook
Best cost: Dell

i would go with apple, dell or sony...i'm not sure how reliable panasonic laptops are. if you're going mostly for looks, i'd go with apple or sony (sony vaio looks great, and apples look nice too). sony is also a bit more expensive. i have a toshiba and it's really good...got it for a good price too.

well I have a Dell Desk Top, its all I got....I hope to buy a new one some day but I am not so sure which one would be better
