Since Truong was an alien, he should have been deported.

David Truong got out of prison after serving about half of his 15-year sentence, married, and went to live in Holland. He spent several years working in Vietnam beginning circa 2000 working for the European Union as a development representative in Hanoi. He died of cancer in Malaysia in the summer of 2014 (obituary published in the Washington Post). Ronald Humphrey joined former Nixon aide Charles Colson's Evangelical Christian prison ministry during his time in prison. After Humphrey was released from prison he worked as and editor/writer on Colson's prison ministry's newsletter.
