I was told at the hospital that is not necessary to use alcohol because they put some blue dye on the cord.

I have been using alcohol even though they said with the blue dye I don't need to. With my daughter, her cord fell off after 10 days. With my son they said it should fall off within 2 weeks.

Get that baby into the pediatrician cuz that isn't normal! The umbilical cord should fall off w/in the first week! My son's cord had to be carterized (sp?) when he was a week. I wasn't getting far enough down cleaning it with the rubbing alcohol. I've always used it on my kids, my mom, aunt, cousins, all of us used alcohol for the cords. Don't know about the "blue dye"????

It's just a weird thing isn't it? But you should be putting rubbing alcohol on it at least a couple of times a day. It helps it dry out quickly. If left on too long it can just be annoying and one more thing to worry about with a newborn. I don't think it's a health risk but you should just give your doctor's office a call and ask a nurse. My first baby's was removed surgically because of some complications after birth, but with my second I think I neglected to apply th alcohol as much as I should have and it took a little longer to come off. At her 2 week check-up the doctor said it looked ready to come off and he carefully worked it off with some alcohol. So I think alcohol is really good to use on it. It certainly can't hurt as long as you put it only on the stump. Anyway call the doc and GOOD LUCK!

I used alcohol every time I changed my girl. Her cord fell of when she was a month and 4 days. There is nothing to worry about. And don't worry that when it falls of the baby belly button will be a bit brown, it will go away with time. I am a first time mom too. Worried about everything. Everything will go as planned told me the doc once. I don't worry much now. Unless it is something really to worry about.
Congrats on becoming a mom. Hope you sleep soon.

well, I'm german, and over here the blue dye is called "GENTIANA" it works pretty well.
alcohol works too, but isn't recommendet by any doctor I don't know why it doesn't hurt the baby if you use it careful.
there's also a special powder, called "TYROSUR", it also prevents infections. That's what I prefered for my babies.
I don't know, whether you can get it in the USA, but try.
and my kids cord fell off within 2 weeks after birth
sorry, if my english isn't perfect

21 days is fine. My OB said between 7-21 days but sometimes it takes longer. I think my son's fell off around day 25 and we used the alcohol swabs everyday.

Usually they fall between 6 and 14 days... All depends on your babys body ability to cure it self. I don't think there's nothing to worry about.

But It's your baby, call the doctor... and if our mothers, aunts, grandmothers used alcohol (and we are fine), there's nothing wrong with including traditional "medicine" to the way you care for your baby.

Hope everything's fine... Good luck.

it is easy for toddlers to lose their umbilical twine stump interior 2-3 weeks after their beginning. some toddlers will lose theirs greater promptly than others and a few will take somewhat longer. At in trouble-free terms 8 days, there is not any project in any respect till it is exhibiting indications of an infection. there is not any might desire to purpose to get the twine to drop off any quicker so actual do no longer play around with it. My grandson did no longer lose his umbilical twine stump till the day he became 5 weeks. It replaced into putting on by using a thread for days earlier it ultimately got here off. All you may desire to do is keep the diaper folded down or use the toddler diapers with the notch cut back out of them so it does not rub against it and reason inflammation. you do no longer even might desire to place something on it. in the previous it rather is been trouble-free prepare to place rubbing alcohol on the stump, yet learn teach that it does not rather make any distinction. My granddaughter replaced into born on March 11. The clinical institution she replaced into born at replaced into in the ability of adjusting their coverage of having new mothers use alcohol wipes to no longer having them use the wipes. At her 2 week examine up, my daughter asked the pediatrician approximately it because of the fact the toddler nevertheless had her twine stump. Her pediatrician mentioned that it will fall off whilst it rather is waiting and there is not any might desire to apply alcohol, yet they might in the event that they needed. i does no longer be demanding in any respect approximately an 8 day old toddler who nevertheless has his umbilical twine stump. it rather is not any longer unusual and not something to be demanding over.
