Blackstrap molasses, available from good health shops is rich in iron. It comes from sugar beets or sugar cane.

I began using it for anemia (iron deficiency). It has an unusual taste - very strong, but you can get used to it. However, it is very sticky/ gooey. I like it best by the teaspoon in a cup of hot water, drunk as a tea.

I have tried it in food (like on oats prridge instead of sugar) but found it unpleasant that way.

Excellent as a source of potassium and iron. I like a little in my coffee in the morning. It is also a good source of trace minerals.

I was also told it can help with constipation. It's an altogether good tonic and cleanser for the body and a healthy subsitute for sugar.

I think this terminology is from USA, I suspect that it is treacle, which although sweet is likely to make you sick if taken in even moderate amounts.
