To protect workers from employers

2006-09-20 09:32:35 · answer #1 · answered by RuRu 3 · 0 0

sorry that the response that were given look like crap.
But here are some thing that are important:
Unions provide protection to workers who have been in the company for more than partial time of three months from getting unjustly fired, this process of lay take a very long time.
secondly the union gives great benefits to all its members, and even a fair representation in the company. Plus they have the right to protest and strike without loosing their jobs. And finally pension plans are protected by the bylaws of the union, meaning you can't be fired three months before you are hitting retirement
hope I was some help, any time you need help just contact me.

Hope for the best

If there is a union, the workers in the union can go on strike if they feel they are being treated unfairly/paid too little/etc. If you are in the union, you cannot be fired for striking. You don't get paid, either, though. If you are not in the union and you just don't show up for work (because what non-union worker wants to cross a union picket line?), you CAN be disciplined.

Higher prices for consumers, low quality workers who can't be terminated because they are members of the union.
The time for unions have passed, we have labor laws to protect workers. The majority of union employees are slackers who couldn't make it in the real world without the protection of their union.
The teachers union is the worst
Those who can do, those who can't teach.

They USED to provide representation for individuals to gain better working conditions.
As I grew in my career they became weaker and weaker, and tended to take my dues and then cave in to the companies' demands in order to keep the contract with them.
Then the Air traffic Controllers were fired when they went on strike, and worker's rights have steadlily decreased in favor of corporate interests as I watched.
