I have experienced this in Farmacies and stores like Sams', Costco.... I don't get why there it that blower, fan or what ever it is.

Two answers that I have heard is that:
1. They keep out bugs (flies, bees, wasps etc)
2. They keep the cool air conditioned air inside and the warmer outside air out (or vise versa in winter) when stores keep big doors open all day (like Sam's and Costco)

These are called air curtians in the HVAC industry. What it is suppose to do is create a barrior of air between the store and outside. This prevents either air conditioned or heated air from escaping the store and creating a more comfortable store to shop in.
