There is no firewire on hard disc camcorders as they record in mpeg2 and or mpeg4 which is incompatible with firewire (which requires DV video). You connect the camcorder to your computer via USB and the hard drive will appear as a removable drive and you just drag and drop the contents over to your pc. You will have to edit with the supplied software or an mpeg2 compatible editing prog (or convert from mpeg2 to DV if needs be).
If you require a simple mpeg2 editor and means to convert to other formats I can recommend mpeg streamclip (Mac and windows).

Hi,
On your camcorder you will find a little port which like this:

or possibly:

It may be hidden behind a "rubber cover" and will ahve either i.Link or 1394 or Firewire written on it.

The other end goes ito a firewire port on your computer. If you do not have you can buy a firewire adaptor which connects to a USB port instead. A small local it shop will have them cheap.

I recommend you take the JVC cable with you to the IT shop to make sure you get the right cable.

EDIT: I've had a look at the JVC UK website and their hard disk cameras seems to have USB2 (High Speed USB) not firewire

You will need a Fireware Cable. One end connects to a Fireware port in your PC and the other end, usually a small usb goes into the Cam Corder. Not all PC's have a Firewire port though. You can easily add one to your PC, simply get one from PC World, take the back off the computor and slot in a new Firewire / USB Port next to your exising USB Ports.Cost about £25.00 for a Firewire / USB Port and £10.00 for the cable

Usually this port is covered by a small rubber flap.

It is different on every camcorder. Only your manual can tell you. If you lost your manual, look on JVC's website.

Under one of the flaps which have the same shape as the firewire cable like a Vshaped port. Don't force it but you see if the shape is correct and then try the cable.
