"I am sorry but no, the only thing I want to do is pour money down the pipe in Iraq. Sincerely, George Bush."

The Tuller Hotel is just one example of the urban blight of Detroit. The renewal of Detroit is taking place around Wayne State University. Businesses and housing are flourinshing. Take a look at the Detroit Library and Detroit Institute of Arts. Detroit is a great place to get an education.

Wayne State University medical school does a lot of research as does the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. The Schiffman medical library is outstanding. The various hospitals in Detroit's medical center are extremely well kept and the Karmanos Cancer Center is one of the best.

Tiger stadium and Ford field are awesome as is the Fox theater and all the surrounding restaurants. The Red Wings and Joe Louis arena are still good. (The sports teams could be better if the fans were more supportive). You should really take a look around Detroit and see what is happening. There is a lot in the entertainment field. Detroit Electronic Music Festival attracted people from around the world.

Detroit became rundown because of the mayor's office spending tax dollars not in the interest of the taxpayers.

What about New Orleans? It is still a dump. Does Detroit have a high % of minorities? If so then you can expect to see NO help from this administration.

You wanna know what Dick Cheney and Condi Rice were doing during Katrina? Dick Cheney was fly fishing, and Condi was shoe shopping. Nice huh? Also did you know that about a week or two after Katrina hit Bush went to New Orleans and made a speech in the French quarter where they turned on the lights and cleared the garbage long enough for Bush to give his speech and as soon as it was over the electricity in the French Quarter was cut off again. The "leaders" of this country do not give two sh*ts about the people who live here, and that is why Mr. Bush just flew over the disaster that was Katrina rather than going down there and rallying to the people!

Of course the president can, I;m sure regretfully, not help actually save the downtrodden areas of Detroit or any other city. Nor will he be able to do much to help people recover when this section of Detroit actually collapses. However, when the pictured section does collapse he will be glad to give a speech from the rubble. Furthermore he will have no problem speaking from the vacant lots each year on the anniversary of Detroit's demise (as long as no one does anything silly like attempting to rebuild).

Living in the Detroit suburbs, it pains me to see this. Some of the reason for it is people stealing the wiring out the walls in order to sell the copper.
Detroit really needs an overhaul, but we can't trust the people who run Detroit to do it without lining their pockets 10 folds.
If we have an outside body do it there will be screams of racisms.
Don't know what to do.

Probably a Local problem, not a Federal one. Vote your incumbent govenor and congressmen out of office. Its not the Federal government's job to fix local states when they're government screws things up.
