The Vatican is generally considered a country. There is San Marino, a little hold out land in Italy. Monaco, the small principality on the south coast of France might come next. Compared to these, strange as it may sound, Andora (between France and Spain), Liechtenstein (between Switzerland and Austria), and Luxemberg (south of Belgium) all seem positively huge compared to San Marino, Monaco, and The Vatican.

The Holy See, also known as Vatican City, is officially the smallest country in the world. San Marino and Monaco fall after it, then the principalities of Liechtenstein and Andorra. Luxembourg, while small, is much bigger than any of the previous countries. All are worth visiting, and for more than merely stamping your passport like a shameless tourist :)

Andorra. It is between Spain and France. It is beautiful, all mountains.
(besides the vatican, of course. thats kinda cheating, since it is a city and a country.)
