i'm answering the here and now, it hurts to say this but Peter Laviolette. he was turning my team (i won't say who) around when he got fired. then he goes to another team and wins the cup. i really thought usa was going to do a lot better under his leadership but we still have a bunch of old cry baby players on are team that hold us back.

Scotty Bowman became the league's most successful coach over his 30 years of coaching with 1,244 wins in the regular season and 223 in the playoffs. He won a record 9 Stanley Cups with Montreal Canadiens (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979), Pittsburgh Penguins (1992) and Detroit Red Wings (1997, 1998 and 2002). He won the Jack Adams Award in 1977 and 1996. In the 1976-1977 season he won a record 60 games then, in 1996, won 62, breaking his own record for regular season wins. He won a 10th Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 1991 while serving as the Director of Player Development.

Best coach ever, Scotty Bowman hands down. As far as active coaches I think Bob Hartley does a great job with the young players.

Jacques Lemaire. Because he bulit a system of teamwork and defense that has outlasted his stay at the Devils and has kept them one of the best squads in the league over the past 10 years. (Some credit also to Lou)
