I used mirena. I had it in from March of 2005-December 2005. It was painful to have put in and for a couple of weeks after. A few times a month I got these really bad cramps with it..to the point where I couldn't stand upright and felt like passing out even when I was laying down. I'm sure that's not the case with everyone though. I would still give it a shot if I were you. You have to wait 6 weeks after the baby is born so be careful (at least the wait of 6 weeks is what I was told). The benefits are that you basically don't have to worry about protection, well unless you have multiple partners then I would (not saying you do just saying in general) and you don't have to worry about pregnancy. Also, I stopped getting my period on it which was great for me too because my periods were always a nightmare. I had it taken out because my fiance and I got married in May and knew we would be trying for another baby and I wanted the hormones to be completely gone and out of my system...well the cramps I was getting made me get it out a little sooner then planned as well, but like I said you could have no problems and it could have just been me. I would definatly recommend it though because it's easy and convienient.

Im on my second Mirena and I LOVE it. I recommend it to everyone. I feel like the MIrena was designed just for me. lol I had my first for 15 months until we decided to try for our second child. Ive had my second for about 4 months now. I couldnt ask for an easier birth control, for 5 years I dont have to do anything besides check it every now and then.

My reasons for getting it:
I breastfed both times
I cannot remember to take the pill everyday
I would only use condoms as a last resort
I wont get the shot, ever

Honestly if you think you're going to forget anything I would skip the minipill. Its the most popular option for breastfeeding moms but if you dont take it within the same 2 hour window its not effective.

I think OB/GYNs push the pill because its a constant cost, the MIrena is once every 5 years.

Also, Ive heard it was painful to insert if youve never had a baby which is why most OBs wont even give it to you if you dont have children. But since you're having a baby it shouldnt be as painful.

I have the Mirena IUD and I really have liked it since I had it put in. I haven't had to worry about it at all. I don't have to remember to take a pill. I had a period and no problems until the end of the second year. My hormones went quacky after that. Not saying it was due to that. I really liked mine. I am having it taken out this month just to get ready to start ttc. I did have some spotting in the beginning but now I don't have a period at all.

LOVE IT! My baby is 5 1/2 months old now and I still haven't had a period. It was a bit uncomfortable getting put in (but nothing compared to child birth) and I had to go back to have the strings trimmed, but other than that, no problems. I have had no side effects or anything. It is the greatest thing ever. And when you want to get pregnant, you just have it taken out, have a period, and you are back in business. I am also breastfeeding, and there has been no problems with the two.

Ask your OB about the minipill.

My best friend got the Mirena IUD and she hates it. She has had it for 5.5 months and still bleeds out of no where, for no reason. She has to carry pads with her everywhere she goes and wear a liner at all times because she never knows when she's going to start bleeding.

She said she'd much rather go back to condoms and the pill than bleeding out of no where.

Fabulous! 10 years and no fears! Great sex and no worries!

I have two kids and plan on NO more. I have a little spotting now and then, my flow is very heavy, but only lasts 3 or 4 days...all women respond differently, you will know within a few days whether your body accepts it or not. Someone stated earlier that you do have to "reach up" into yourself to check it.
Benefits are obvious, no hormone changes, no oops i forgot to (whatever).~No condoms (if you're in a stable relationship), no creams, gels, films (all of these are unreliable)~ No getting pregnant!

One negative was it was a little embarrassing when I got an X-ray and my Chiropractor saw it ;)

I've had it for a few years now and I love it! No worry about taking pills or using condoms! And the only bleeding I encountered was when it was put in place, but I was on my period as they recommended. The one negative thing I can think of is you have to be comfortable with touching your own body because it is recommended that you occasionally check to make sure it's still in place.

Yes I had an IUD yrs. ago. Not sure of the brand. I had complications ranging from unusual bleeding, cramps, and infection. My Dr. removed it immediately after I complained. Somehow it moved from the original area.

How about the "film"? All you do is insert it 15 mins. before having sex. I have used that for 7 yrs. and no problems.

Best Wishes

All I have to say about this is LOVE IT, LOVE IT LOVE IT. I had it for a year and had no periods. I plan on getting one put in at my sixth week check-up as well. the only thing I hated about it is you have to be on your period when they insert it (gross) but other than that no complaints and when I had it removed to have another baby it was a one sec. job with no pain. If you want to talk about it more I would be happy to tell you how awesome it was mcolby@gmail.com
