It beggars belief some of the rude, insulting and foul answers that are given on here by some young Americans. Why is this?

Because all Americans are cocky by nature and unfortunately they think they are smart when they are really as thick as pig s***

I'm American, and I'm not rude at all. In fact, most people I know try to consider other people's feelings. I do believe, however, that today's youth all over the world tend to be a little more rude and insulting because they think they're being cool, and because youthful sarcasm is potrayed so well on TV and in movies. Perhaps they want to aspire to that. Also, most of us are behind a computer w/ avatars or smiling grey boxes as our only identification, and it seems to bring out the nastiness in people who can be very nice in person. I've found the same rudeness in some British people (or from whatever part of the world they are), but I ignore those answers recognizing that it simply stems from having a hidden identity.

Well first of all, people answering on Yahoo Answers is not a statistically representative sample of Americans as a whole, so don't conclude that all Americans (or a majority of them) are rude.

For those rude Americans here, they are probably very ignorant of the world outside them (their news broadcasts don't really talk about issues outside their own country in a positive and through light), and they are told many times that Americans (meaning the US military or political elite) saved the world in World War 1 and World War 2 from horrors of Nazis, and then in the Cold War from the horrors of Soviet Communism.

Well it's not such a great picture, as what Americans don't tell too much to each other is that they committed the worst violation of human rights possibly in history in the form of slavery (20 million slaves shipped from West Africa to all American colonies including the USA, both under British rule and when Independent), they supported dictators during the cold war in various countries including just about all South American countries, vast parts of Africa, supported Apartheid in South Africa until 1994, exaggerated the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by not looking at a two state solution earlier, etc. etc. The US dominance in world politics is not only bening, but Americans themselves haven't experienced difficult times anywhere near to the other parts of the world for a long time. They didn't really participate in WW1, they didn't have their own country devastated in WW2 besides Pearn Harbour, and even 9/11 is a small disaster if compared to Rwanda, Darfur, Biafra... etc.

Well so I say it's about history, linked to national pride, poor educational system and media that focuses too much on American acheivements and not other view points.

I am an American, and I am certainly not rude. You should not be generalizing on this forum, it is not very fair of you to do so. There are good and bad, polite and rude in all nations and countries. We are all human, and there are many types of people who make up the world. I was brought up, rightfully; to be polite and not rude to anyone. Some people today do not care about anyone besides themselves, and others just think that it is funny in some sick and twisted way to be rude and insulting and use bad language. I enjoy helping people out, that is why I am on here. I do have to ignore a lot of the rudeness and grossness I see on here, or I would just be hitting the Report Abuse button constantly. Have a good day, and the best thing you can do is try and ignore the rudeness to the best of your ability.

My response may be, why are you stereotyping all Americans. There is good in bad in all people. There is good and bad in all cultures. It may be that other cultures define Americans as rude because there is a cultural barrier. Some cultures are more quiet, soft spoken, and conservative. While I agree that some people here on Yahoo Answers do give rude & foul answers, not all of us reflect that nature. I for one, resent being grouped with that stereotype. I do not think anyone should be casting stones, unless they for one, are perfect. To flip this around, we may look at you and your question as judgmental, accusational, narrow minded and stereotyping people. I think it is more productive if we all look in our own hearts, souls, minds and lives and examine how we can each become better humanbeings. Anytime I hear of questions or comments grouping people and making negative statements about groups of people such Americans, Africans, Women, Men, Foreigners, etc I automatically see the person speaking as prejudice. Look at the individual. Don't judge others. Try to be a good influence and help others rise to be better. Like it or not, we are all in this world together. We need to be brothers and sisters in Christ. Stop the hate, and find what we have in common for the good of mankind. Erase the hate.

Well, for one, thank you for using a qualifier in your question ("some" young americans) I don't see qualifiers often enough and it was appreciated.

Some of it is the culture of this time. Many US citizens (I am assuming you are speaking of Americans in the US?) are very unaware of other cultures outside of their own. Many are basing their perception of themselves, as well as others from images they see on television, information they read in newspapers etc. And this information is heavily biased and also uneducated. How many students today are being taught classes on critical reasoning?

A book I would recommend to anyone, US citizen or other, is called "Why Do People Hate America" It was written in response to many US citizen's questioning the very same thing, right after 9/11. It is one of the most influencial books I have ever read and I learned a lot about myself as a US citizen, about my government and its foreign and global policies, and about other cultures in the world as well and how things are knitted together and where the tension is coming from. The book costs either less than 10$ (used), or in some cases less than 15$(new)

In general I find most Americans to be almost cringingly polite and their society to be hideously conformist. Courtesy seems almost to be an obsession there; so much so, indeed, that it is sometimes difficult to know who someone truly is.

I think that these young Americans are rebelling against this conformism, and enjoying the fact that they can be rude here with impunity.

I´m not arguing that this is something I enjoy, but like the horrible rock bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Manson etc) they listen to, it seems to be a sort of escape valve for them from the blandness that characterises much of US life.

Americans are a little bit too proud, without a justified reason for being so. I am an American, but not arrogant or proud like some folk are. I try to be polite with people, as long as I have eaten something. Speaking of which, I need a Barbecue Pork sandwich. Buh Bye! : )

First - How do you know that the posters are American?

Second - It's always the bad apple that makes the whole bunch look bad. There are some real idiots who can't even put together a proper sentence, yet feel compelled to spout their silly opinion as if anyone cared. However, there are many thoughtful and respectful answers. It's just the idiots that catch your eye.

mostly all young people are rude.... and then people are rude to americans, like some europeans because they associate us with our foreign policy, while most of us don't give a damn about our foreign policy... unless the guy, girl, whatever their nationality is, is being a jerk, then you can be rude to them...

honestly some people are just rude/insecure/impatient

you can't generalize rudeness, if anything the french are known for being rude....

Because you are making an assumption based on a few Americans here. They're not all rude.
