It could be the hard drive running really hard during the game, or it could be the cd drive if the game is running from a cd. I would try listening to those items to see if it could be them. If the noise is abnormal then one of them could be going bad.

Also, I don't know if you checked the power supply fan, the cpu fan, or the system fan, but I would check any other fans in the computer if you didn't check them all.

Good luck,

Bottom line is: RuneScape is a very taxing game on older computers.

RuneScape is a game made entirely from Javascript. It's not too big to load, but it makes the computer work pretty hard to run it. I used to play RuneScape a lot. On our old Vaio laptop, it boosts the CPU usage to 100% automatically, and the computer needs some assisted cooling to play the game without lagging. (I was smart enough to place the computer on top of a big Honeywell Cyclone fan, tilted up so that it acted as a table. lol That worked to cool it, although the computer fan still made noise because it was always running. All in all, it was a pretty noisy situation.) On my brand new Dell laptop though, I tested RuneScape and it ran just fine. The fan barely needed to work, although it still boosted CPU to near 100% usage.

Cooling it with an external fan probably won't work if it's a desktop computer though.

Your fan's rotation is obstructed by something try cleaning it again or replace the fan with a new one.If the noise is not from the fan then your its the sound from your hard disk motor which has gone old and its time for you to upgrade the hard disk.
