Their language is concidered Latin-based because that's the "family" it's in, also known as Romance languages (from Rome, were they spoke Latin). I've never heard of Mexicans or French being called "Latin," Mexicans are Hispanic and French.... are French lol.

Being Latin or Latino is nothing about the color of your skin. Mexicans are called Latinos because they live in Latin America. I don't know about the French being called Latins, but it might be because they speak a Latin-based language, as do Italians. It has nothing to do with your ethnicity or color, and it certainly isn't cause for insult to be called, or not called, Latin. I mean, who cares? At least get it right if you do care so much about it.

Being Latin has nothing to do with skin color. I never heard the French being called Latin either. You sound very confused. Read a book and do some research before you form opinions and talk.

It has nothing to do with race or ethnics background
It has to do with Latin roots
In United States latins are those from LatinAmericans countries
And
Around the World,....
Latins should be considered those whose language has roots in Latin language:
French, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Romanian, etc....

In fact, the Italians are the true Latinos, because the Latinos, in the ancient time, was a tribe of the Italy, that tribe was the funded of the Roman Empire.
The Hispanic or Hispanic Americans, are people (like me) WHO their first language are the Spanish (Spain and the rest of Latino America) therefore the Italians are not Hispanics.
Some people (mostly from the Nordic world) called Latinos the people who speak a language that came from the Latin (the language from the Roman empire).
The Mexican and French are considered Latinos because both languages (the Spanish and french) came from the Latin Language
In USA, invented the "Latinos" concept, they use it to make the difference between the people from USA and Canada (Whites) and the rest of the American continent (From Mexico to Argentina) they called them (or us) Latino Americans o Latinos.
But the latinoamericans are not a race, are in fact and mixture from 3 races: Whites (mostly from Spain and Portugal), Blacks (slaves from western Africa) and Red or Native Americans or Indios (from different cultures and civilizations in the Continent like Mayas, Aztecas, Quechua's, Totonacas, Olmecas, etc)
