Network research found that if people on screen said goodbye, the viewers would subconsciously equate that with being told goodbye themselves and lose interest/switch channels etc.

Well not everyone in real life says goodbye! My dad just hangs up on you or else he says "sound" and then he's gone!

Why do you never see anyone sneeze unless it's somehow relevant to what's going on (IE they've got a cold or an allergy). Am I the only person who sometimes has to sneeze or cough mid sentence?

Maybe because they don't want to, they're too lazy, they might forget their lines, or jsut isn't on the script.
