Well there are a few ways you could do this. One option would be to put the computer in a common area in the house and keep it out of their bedroom. Another option is using a program (There are programs made by Spectorsoft http://www.spectorsoft.com/ which was a PC Magazine award winner) which records everything your kids do online even if they know how to erase where they've been. If this doesn't look like the program for you just search the internet for monitoring programs or adult/parental supervision programs. Good luck!

You can purchase an internet filter software package and block unwanted material. Some software packages have the 'logging' feature which will record every keystroke, every website visited, all chats etc. to hidden files which are accessible to only the person installing the package.

Realize one thing; teens these days know how to disable or circumvent some of these programs. If they realize you are monitoring, they will do what they want to do on a friend's computer that is not monitored.

A silent keylogger may be good. Go to google and search for the word 'keylogger' and buy a good one. All the cheap & free ones can be detected.

Talk to your kids. Try that first.

The best way is to check up on them physically while they are surfing the net. Installing a keylogger or an app such a CyberSitter, Cyber Patrol or Net Nanny is another way. IMHO there is nothing woirng with looking at their email or chat logs either. Keep the PC in a "family" area so that at anytime a family member is in the same room.

there are softwares out there more commonly known as parental control programs. some ISP providers already have this additional free service to their customers with kids. what these program/service do is that they monitor sites/email/chats when children, with particular ids, are logged on to the computer & the internet. it then, sends and generates reports to parents' email for their review. parents also have authority on what sites and services the kids are allowed to.
