i am having period like blood clots. i just started it yesterday. i've been on birth control pills since i was 14, i am now 16. my doctor said that i might have odd side effects until my body gets used to the change, but i have never bled this bad. i've only been on it for two days. plus, to add;; it keeps falling out. is there anyway to stop that?

When using this contraceptive ring, women are advised not to smoke, breastfeed, or use a diaphragm. NuvaRing, similar to birth control pills, is not recommended for women with any of the following:

pregnancy or suspect a pregnancy
current or previous blood clots in the legs, lungs, or eyes
chest pain
had a heart attack or stroke
severe high blood pressure
diabetes with kidney, eye, nerve, or blood vessel complications
headaches with neurological symptoms
have or suspect cancer of the breast, lining of the uterus, cervix, or vagina
unexplained vaginal bleeding
yellowing or whitening of the eyes or skin during pregnancy or past use of oral contraceptives
liver tumors or active liver disease
diseases of the heart valves with complications
a need for a long period of bed rest following major surgery
an allergy to any of the components of NuvaRing
In addition, women who have any of the following conditions should only use the contraceptive ring under close supervision of a health care provider:

a family history of breast cancer
breast nodules, fibrocystic disease, an abnormal breast X-ray, or abnormal mammogram
diabetes
high blood pressure
high cholesterol or triglycerides
headaches or epilepsy
depression
gallbladder or kidney disease
major surgery (the contraceptive ring may need to be removed temporarily to reduce the possibility of developing blood clots)
any condition that causes vaginal irritation
a prolapsed uterus, bladder, or rectum
severe constipation

You should go to your doctor. Any type of birth control has dangerous risks of blood clots; this might mean your blood is thickening. My doctor has me take a baby aspirin everyday to prevent blood clots from my birth control Yasmin. The aspirin keeps you safer.

thanks for the extra details. why do you have your nuva ring in while you are on your period. heavier clotted periods is occasionally normal. make sure to take some extra iron to keep yourself from getting anemic (low blood levels) i would still check with your OBGYN to make sure that everything is okay. as far as keeping it in i would suggest emptying a tampon applicator out folding up the ring in the applicator and insert it just like a tampon. make sure you get it up in there it should hold itself against the walls of the vagina once you have it in deep enough.
