To answer you gold fish question.. If you have a health, fish with out stress, a tank that has been properly set up with air pump, and filter, your lil guy should make it. Ive had many a gold fish in my life. Some do die, mostly from a bad disease called ick, but this too can be treated (lil red dots all over fish scales) just go to your local, fish store and ask for ick drops or aqua fresh soulution, I added this to my fishes tank, once a month even with health fish. This can make your stay health and less stressed out, Stress is a big killer with gold fish. One of my gold fish, got sick and didnt die for months! yeah, it just depends on how bad they are. And if youve a healthy tank, no worries!

They can live a long time, but depending on the type you can expect a few years.
Typically goldfish are kept in a small bowl type tank. This isnt sufficient for long term pets. You should have at least a 10 gallon tank with an air source (bubbles) as well as a carbon filter. The carbon removes the ammonia which is what goldfish produce plenty of and removing it will benefit them more than anything else.
Also dont feed them too much or handle them etc.

With proper care (appropriate tank size, water changes, not over feeding, ect) the average goldfish lives 5-10 years.

I've heard goldfish can live for about 20 years. My husband and I have had one for at least 8 years. He lives in a pond in our backyard and he's doing great.

I'm not sure, but when I had goldfish as a child, every morning I'd wake up and a new one would be floating... they just died one by one. But I think it's because I didn't have a filter or anything like that. The more love you give them, the longer they live.
I must have buried 25 fish as a 6 year old, haha.

Life span really depends on the quality of the water. If the toxins spike on a regular basis the fish is slowly poisoned. By keeping your water extremely clean and not over feeding, they can easily live for 15 years

I always had them go belly up the first week I had them. Hopefully they would live longer than a week.
