Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car while filming for the programme.
The presenter, 36, was taken by air ambulance to a Leeds hospital which has a special neurological unit.

A North Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said he was unconscious when they got to the scene but was regaining consciousness at the hospital.

A BBC spokesman confirmed the presenter had been injured during a shoot.

hamster is said to be in a serious but stable condition,a news reporter said tonight 23:00 21/09/06.
the only worry being that he has a severe injury to his brain,i`m sure you will all join me in sending our best wishes for a full recovery.
the accident happened as hamster tried to break the land speed record in a car called a vampire.
he crashed at 280 mph.the attempt was tried on a disused runway in yorkshire.
investigaters are on the scene trying to piece together the wreckage to throw some light onto why the crash occured.
a large gouge in the tarmac may suggest something broke or maybe a blowout.

Sky are reporting that he was trying to break the land speed record and was travelling at 280 MPH.

May I take this opportunity to wish him all the best and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Although I am partially sighted and therefore can't drive, I enjoy the show enormously and consider him to be one of the most talented and best communicators on television at the moment.

Get well soon Richard.

Hear Hear Mickey. Having been an ITU nurse I can imagine whats going on in there and the state his family will be in.

Apparently he was breaking land speed record (succeeded for what its worth) was doing 280 mph and suddenly the jet propelled car overturned.

By best wishes to him and his family...GET WELL SOON x

I've just heard. just the fact that he was airlifted means it's very serious. I too hppe he pulls through and fully recovers. To end up in a wheelchair would devastate him. Such a lovely guy. My thought are with his family.
