I have used two brands that I trust. They are not cheap, but very good even on black. The first is Mother's California Gold Car Wash and the other is Duragloss. Mother's is pretty widely available, but Duragloss is only sold through traditional auto parts stores (Federated and Carquest for sure) The Duragloss also smells the best of any I have seen.

I use the Rain Dance stuff with the wax already in it.
It cleans good and makes a nice shine.

Hand wash DIY job produces the best results Halfords have a good range.

1. wash with Turtle Wax car wash.
2. wax with Turtle Wax paste wax.
3. Rub and buff out.

I use Johnson & Johnsons tearless baby shampoo. If it's safe enough to use it on a child its safe for your cars finish, and it will not leave any streaks or soap film residue on your cars windows or finish.
