I was watching the movie today. Wow. Of course, I have seen it many times before...but it seems like it's one of those classics that you can always see again and again, and it's scary as hell! Not the alien- he's not scary. I meant Sigourney Weaver. LOL.

Hey- just kidding! Sigourney Weaver is really cute in this movie. But man, the genius of this film! The alien was originally going to be like two short dudes/midgets one right on top of the other in a monster suit- I think that this alien that they used was much more plausible, and much scarier. What do you think?

Possibly. There aren't that many sci-fi/horror movies that made as high as Alien so there is not much competition.

First of all of you stupid people that don't know what this person means by Sci-fi/horror is they mixing of both into one movie, Alien one of the first. And, yes i feel it is the best. Any movie where the horror on the faces of the actors is real and not just acting is incredible. If you all don't know what I'm talking about. It's the first chest bursting scene, the only ones in the room that knew whats was going to happen was the Director and the actor on the table, the horror and screams from the actors in the room was all real. Now that is genius.

yes i agree - alien is the best sci-fi/horror film ever.
even the sequels were good.
and yes i am including alienVpredator in that list.

it is not the best horror film ever made nor the best ever sci-fi film.
but it is the only film to capture them both together perfectly, by playing on every-ones worst fears of being alone, totally, with a monster that looked like it couldn't be stopped.

i am sure many an astronaut felt differently, going into space, after that film came out.
coz - in space no-one can hear you scream.
:-)

Actually, ALIEN, as great a horror movie as it is, is NOT a science fiction film.
A good example of science fiction horror might be ANDROMEDA STRAIN, or if you want to get obscure, THE GRAND TOUR with Jeff Daniels. THAT'S great science fiction horror. Or, back in the early '70's, THE OMEGA MAN. That one scared the crap out of me! Even JURASSIC PARK was better SCIENCE FICTION than ALIEN. Not a better movie, exactly, but you framed the question regarding science fiction, and ALIEN, though it takes place in space, there are no science fiction aspects to the story. Great movie, though.
Now, WAR OF THE WORLDS had me literally shaking in my seat, truly terrifying!

One of the best, for sure.

I'd also have to add Independence Day to a list of bests.

There are very few Sci i films you can watch again and again. But I can always watch Alien!

Ridley Scott is just a genius, period.

But Sigourney Weaver? In that movie, her butt's so flat you could write on it!

I went to see that movie with my best friend when it first came out, at the Carnegie Theatre in Chicago, I lived about two blocks from there, it scared the begeezus outa me, when we were walking down to this bar, another one of our friends saw us and hide behind a car and jumped out and scared us, I just about hand a heart attack, Micheline had to tell him "we just saw Alien" and so then he was like "that makes it even funnier"

In the genre of Sci-Fi/Horror...yes. In the genre of Sci-Fi...no. That would be 2001 A Space Odyssey. In the genre of Horror...no. That would be the original Exorcist.
