If you tend to get sick easily then you could be more prone to catching the flu and things like that. You should try to avoid anyone who is ill since being sick and pregnant stinks cause you can't really take anything.

You are more prone to catch the common cold and even Hepatitis than HIV. You would have to come in contact with body fluids ie blood, urine, saliva etc of an HIV individual through an open wound on your body or if you are kissing or having oral sex with the individual. Blood of a person with Hepatits last longer in the air or on the surface of an object, whereas the blood of a person with HIV dies once it reaches the air. Importantly, utilize universal precautions, like washing your hands after utilizing the bathroom.

You can not contract HIV through normal everyday contact. Its contracted through sex, iv drugs and blood. Your baby is perfectly safe as it is not an airborn spread virus like the other things you mentioned. The flu and colds dont typically harm unborn babies unless you happen to contract a secondary infection or illness from those which is not common. I have had both flu and colds with pregnancies and my children were not affected.

Although this person is more likely to get colds and the flu you may be able to avoid getting sick with proper care. I read somewhere that when you are pregnant you are more susceptible to illness but try to eat right, take your vitamins, dress appropriately, wash your hands often..all that sort of good stuff. I don't think you getting a cold will harm the baby, as long as you take extra good care of yourself while sick. A lot of baby's get colds at very young ages and are ok. Talk to your doctor and get their advice on how to avoid getting sick esp around someone who's immune system is compromised.

but what, you can't catch it unless you have an open womb and the person who has it is bleeding and it gets to ur cut. if your really worried talk 2 ur doctor. Its ok i understand i would be the same way if i was pregnant. Just becarefull what you do. you'll get the flu before u catch hiv. You can't protect ur self or baby from getting sick or the flu just go with the flow let me guess ur a first time mom?? I was the same way

You are more prone to catching a cold from someone than catching HIV. Unless you plan on having sexual relations with this women or treating a bloody wound of hers I think you are pretty safe. Talk to your doctor about your concerns, that is what they are there for and they may even treat HIV patients.

Your question is not clear.
If you are concerned about HIV, do some online research. A cold is not harmful to your baby and I do not believe a mild cause of the flu is. You need to discuss these concerns with your health care provider.

Why should her illness make you more prone to get ill?
I know we worry loads when we're pregnant - that's natural. But you rightly say you can't catch it from her from just working with her.
Think how much harder it must be for her, the issues she has to confront if she wanted a child - and the worry that every cough and sneeze must also bring her - and count yourself truly lucky.
Good luck for the future.

just because you work with someone that has HIV will not make you more susceptible to getting sick. If she HAS the flu or something then yes, you could get it. But just pretend she is normal. Most people that have HIV are very careful in what they do and will not even come to work sick anyway. don't worrie

Keep taking your prenatal vitamins and it will help your immune system stay strong.

Truth or not, it worked for me!
