I appreciate the help you're giving! Have checked settings (no proxies, broadband). I see pic only when I have signed in and have selected "My Webcam." If the error message reads "A network error occurred while connecting to the server," should the provider, the camera manufacturer, or Yahoo have the information? Which should I contact. And if it's Yahoo, HOW? This is a setup that works on Circuit City's in-store wireless network; the camera was set up and configured on my computer by CC's tech guy. When that working setup tries to connect to my Roadrunner, I get the error stated.

Go to your CONTROL PANEL and open your Network and Dialup Connections. Right click on your Network connection and pick PROPERTIES. Look through the list and click on Interenet Options (TCP/IP) then hit the PROPERTIES button. This should be set to Automatic, or whatever Static IP address that your provider gave you.

What the heck does your webcam have to do with this? Are you trying to connect to the internet at Roadrunner?

It will take a page to explain what the subnet mask really is, but let me try to tell you just what you need to know.

Subnetmask is a string of four numbers separated by period. For example 255.255.255.254 is a valid subnet mask. Subnet mask is specified in the TCP/IP section of the network configuration. Every device on the same local network segment must use the same subnet mask. If your roadrunner connection is working fine, then you can find which subnet mask you should use for other devices (the camera) to connect to the same network.

From your PC connected to Roadrunner do the following:

Start - Run - type CMD press enter. A black window will open.
Type IPCONFIG and press enter
it will display your TCP/IP configuration, including your IP address and subnet mask. It will look something like this

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 00.000.000.000
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . : 00.000.000.000

Now, configure the camera to use a unique IP address on your home network, but the same subnet mask as your roadrunner network. The default gateway should be the IP address of your Roadrunner Router / switch / hub. Then you should be able to communicate with it.

Good Luck!
