because they sacraficed themselves in their work. Many went MAD from the paints and supplies. Maybe that helped them see a more detailed picture in their minds. They also did many quick studies.

Because linear perspective was discovered by Brunelleschi during the Renaissance and so the artists were able to create a depth to their painting which previous Medieval art had lacked.

Painters such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da VInci looked at the anatomy of the human and animals so as to portray them more realistically. They had even been known to disect body parts and cadavers when they could get hold of them.

Artistic methods were being experimented with and new innovations such as chiaroscuro, sfumato and oil paints all aided a more realistic and interesting portrayal of the subject.

The Renaissance was more than an art movement. It was a cultural revolution. It was a period of exploration and scientific discovery. Artists were no exception to this drive to discover. They started using the science of mathamatics and linear perspective to the creation of art, giving the work a sense of proportion. Artist also explored the world around them. They wanted to show the true beauty of the world they saw and set out to convey that in the art they produced. How light effects an object, how a flower bloomed, how a tree grew, and how distance change an objects appearance were open to explore and depict.
