these 7th graders are very low-level. So hands on activities such as projects would be amazing. But any suggestions would be great!

I've never seen White Fang, sorry. But Back the Future lends itself to tons of ideas...

My initial thoughts:

The movie takes place in 1955 and 1985. Have students imagine what life will be like in 2036 - 30 years in the future. They can write an essay, or draw a picture and label it. Or they can prepare skits to perform as small groups.

Also, you could have them imagine that they live in 1955. Have them do research on the 1950's - politics, fashion, entertainment, world events. If they're not strong readers you just provide resources at lower levels. Then they can do a brochure advertising the 1950's - to convince people in 2006 to take the time machine back in time and move to the 50's. Like a travel brochure - with lots of pictures. Or, they can pretend that they took a time machine from the 1950's to 2006, and they can write a journal entry or letter to a friend describing all the amazing things they saw in the "future."

You could also incorporate math. Have the students write their own time travel word problems.

For "White Fang" you could create a "race" for the kids with questions and activities based on the book. Make it as challenging as they can handle and make rewards for the winner. Email me if you want more info.

All in all a great attempt. Temari

back to the future would be a good one and you can have them draw their own version of a time machine then they can tell you what they would do if they could go back in time
