I am concerned with the closed primary elections in PA. I wish to vote Green Party but they are being stricken from the ballot and if I don't choose to be either Democrat or Republican I am not allowed to vote? This seems outrageous to me and it appears as though our government is controlling who is elected. Please help me understand.

I assume the rules for each party are the same, and the Greens failed to comply.

A closed primary only allows votes to be cast by the voters registered with the party in question. This is supposed to prevent people from the other parties being able to vote against the popular candidate and possibly ruin the party's chances in the actual race.

I have registered Democrat so I can try to throw their races.

The closed primaries are not about who get the job....they are about choose what memebers of each party will be running for the job in the general election....if you are a rep you will for for a rep, dems the same in the closed....If green party was bigger they might have one also, but from what I gather they really have no problem selecting a candidate...and then in the general election you will be able to vote for whatever party you want.

The nominee belongs to the party. If you register green you can choose between two greens in your primary if that's necessary. But the party is so small that the leadership can usually decide without one.

The flip side is that as a green you have more control over who your party puts forward than the average democrat or republican.

In the past voters crossed over political lines to vote for the weakest candidate...If you had a uncontested GOP candidate the GOP voters would vote for a complete screw-up like John Kerry to run against him to ensure victory.
