You might be pregnant. Every woman is different, and your spotting is not inconsistent with an early pregnancy. Until you know for sure, assume you are pregnant and act accordingly (watch what medications you take, etc.). Buy a pregnancy test online at Amazon.com if you can. Otherwise, if you take care of yourself, you'll be fine waiting a few weeks for your doctor's appointment.
If you have access to a thermometer, take your temperature first thing each morning (before getting out of bed). If it is elevated (over about 99) each day, that's a strong sign of pregnancy. If it's below 98, you almost certainly are not pregnant.

You need to be seen by a physician. Sometimes a woman can be pregnant and have bleeding early in pregnancy. Sometimes it may be that you are either having a miscarriage or you could have an ectopic pregnancy. You are complaining of pain in your side which is a red flag. You may experience cramping like sensations in your lower abdomen if you are pregnant which is normal because your uterus/womb is trying to accomodate the pregnancy. Also if you recently had sex, be it protected or unprotected, you may have some light bleeding because if you are pregnant your cervix becomes vascular and may be prone to make you bleed a little. The dark and light brown blood is old blood. Bottom line.... Go and get checked out.

To me it sounds like you have some sort of infetion in your neather region. You could be pregnant but I think that you are just sick. I think that you need to see a doctor. Soon! I know someone who had a brown period and she went to the doctor and she had a bad infection down there. You should get checked out either way. Just to be sure.
