Yes, you'd think a 'memory' would remember wouldn't you. We might have a 'forget' that we cant remember about, then if a memory makes you remember and a forget makes you forget then you may forget to remember and you wont even know coz you've forgot.

People may forget because he/she no longer wants to keep or "store" a certain past experience/event that could have caused any negative emotions (sadness, depression, grief, regret, shame, etc.) . If something were to happen very quickly (ex. putting down your bag to talk to your friends when you're not looking), you tend to forget because it is insignficant to you in that certain time/period. Also, humans aren't computers. We can't "save" ALL (both significant and insignificant) information and experiences in our entire life thus we usually forget. Forgetting things isn't necessarily a bad thing though since it may make you feel more relieved, more happy, more energized, etc.

First input is short term memory then long term. If you don't really care about the situation you will forget.

It is a blessing, I think. Forgetting is an opportunity for improving one's life and feeling easier about the bad things that happened yesterday... and an opportunity to prioritize what is important for TODAY and for TOMORROW.
It is the regeneration effect of the human psyche - I think of it always as of a "maintenance function".

Over LOAD, the brain recognizes that not all input in has to be stored forever. That's not to say you couldn't remember things it just isn't prioritized as requiring "storage." Often times too, highly traumatic events maybe forgotten, it's your brain's way of protecting you from psychological and pathological outcomes. (Such as PTSD post traumatic stress disorder).
