The answer is simple--Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and Frist have run amok and have successfully used the "terror issue" (there is no war, no war was declared) to stymie the Congress, the Democrats and the American Public. Makes me wonder if Lincoln was wrong about fooling all of the people all of the time.
If Bush thought he could get away with it, he'd have no trials at all...and in fact, I wonder how many prisoners have been executed either during or after torture by this thug....
For those who say that terrorists don't deserve trials--read your Constitution, they certainly do. They deserve, like everybody else--to fair trials (5th amendment), to bail, to subpoena witnesses, to confront the witnesses and evidence against them, to have a neutral fact finder and a speedy trial (6th amendment). Both of these amendments and other parts of the Constitution have been grossly offended.
FYI Inorant ones--
Sixth Amendment
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.
Fifth Amendment--
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Lets us not forget the right of Habeas Corpus which extends to all persons as well--
A writ of habeas corpus is a judicial mandate to a prison official ordering that an inmate be brought to the court so it can be determined whether or not that person is imprisoned lawfully and whether or not he should be released from custody. A habeas corpus petition is a petition filed with a court by a person who objects to his own or another's detention or imprisonment.
I'm still waiting for America to wake up from its dream before its too late--for if it is, they will wake up finding they have permanently lost many cherished rights--all in the name of security which does not exist.
I'm sure that Birdsnake will jump to Bush's defense now...probably has his computer located somewhere in the bowels of the White House.

Because Bush would like to be a dictator.. It's amazing to me how this current administration can talk and gesture so wildly about democratic principles and spreading democracy in the place of "Islamo-fascism" and yet maintain a trajectory that very clearly collides and defies the constitution..
two of my favorite Bush quotes
"It would be much easier if we were a dictatorship.. as long as I was in charge"
and referring to the constitution as a "God Damned piece of paper" .
PS... this joker below me here "birdsnakecat" clearly works for the right wing propaganda mechanism.. check his answers. He never ever strays "off topic" .. never asked one question, has no contact email and has answered thousands of questions the same way every time.. stay the course, right?

To protect the Iraqi's from the human rights violator Saddam Huss...hey wait a minute...Have we joined the axis of evil? Do we really believe it is OK to violate someones rights "for the good of our government". Do we believe that we must assume someone guilty and beat the crap out of them til they confess? All for our safty? So where do we draw the line? We just have to label someone as a terrorist. Once they are labeled they may be taken away in the dead of night and beaten to admit guilt. Next thing you know they will be labeling all Liberals as terrorists... No, neocons would NEVER do THAT!

It's so nice of you to care about terrorists.
I notice you didn't mention the be-headings, and all the people the terrorists have killed.
Send the terrorists hugs & kisses.
