You can do it up till the first snow. I wouldn't try to root cuttings--I would just take a little hand trowel and dig out little clumps and put them where you want them. In a year they'll fill it with a little help in the spring from fertilizer. And in your original bed, the holes where you took the starts will also fill in. Don't fert this fall and if you're getting plenty of precip. don't water them once you have them planted. Nature will take care of them until the spring.

Until you have a Hard freeze....take the cuttings now, in case they don't grow....get Rootgrow, it works the best...all you do is dip the cuttings in the stuff and put them in water or dirt...good luck...
