Sometimes "the dog ate my homework" can be true. When my kids were little, we had a baby sitter who was doing her homework (a term paper) on the kitchen table. There was a thunder storm and my son woke up. The sitter went up to comfort him, and when she came back down, our dogs (two Newfoundlands) and her term paper in shreds. I wrote a note to the teacher to explain, and she was given extra time to redo her paper.
Truth is a good thing. In that case, the dog excuse was true. I think if you are honest about the homework with your teacher, you may lose some points in your grade, but the teacher will probably let you turn it in late with just a slight penalty. (Possibly a grade lower) Do the very best you can on it.
If this happens again the night before it is due, contact a friend from class and see if you can copy the sheet. If the friend already has it done, put blank sheets of paper over the answers before you copy it.
It might also help to have a book that you can record all your homework in, so you know what is due when. You can get them where ever school supplies are sold.

Go to class a couple of minutes early to talk to the teacher. Just be honest and tell them that you dont know what happened to it, or whatever happened. Then ask them what you can do about it, whether they accept late work for partial credit, if they can give it to you to turn in by the end of the day, or if you can come in at lunch time and do it.
Everyone makes mistakes, especially if this is your first time, you teacher may be understanding. Just make sure it doesnt happen again, or they may not be as forgiving. Good luck!

Tell the truth. Take heart in the fact that for most classes, the total amount of homework is a small percentage of the grade, so one assignment tends to be pretty insignificant.
Many teachers will accept late homework if you're honest with them - especially if they feel you're a good student and they know you put forth effort.

There is no excuse for not doing homework. There are, however, a multitude of excuses for it having got lost / eaten / abducted by aliens. Maybe your sibling could have picked it up by mistake - or your dad, and taken it to work with him in his briefcase, where it promptly became lost in the endless piles of paperwork that litter his desk? Or you could just say the dog ate it. Or you ran out of loo roll at home and had to put it to other more urgent use.....

Speak to your teacher before it is due (preferably with enough time to do it). Explain that you made an honest mistake and can't find the work sheet, ask for another one and, if needed, a little extra time to turn it in. You should also ask for some extra credit work to show your commitment to learning the material. Teachers aren't there to make your life miserable, they want you to learn and if you show initiative rather than some excuse for failure, they will respect that. Good Luck!

teachers can see through many excuses, and by making an obvious untruth , you will most likely have the teacher watching over you for future mistakes.
be brave ,say that you misplaced it and was unable to get it off another kid, for what ever your reason was. then accept any punishment ,such as detention, and try harder next time. don't sweat it too much, and think in relation to the fact that you can't be sent to the gallows, what's the worst that can happen. many of us don't like to be in trouble, but it will not last ,and you can learn from the mistake. good luck.

hope they forget about it until the end of the lesson, hang about at the back of the classroom and refuse to make eye-contact with them, then when the bell goes quickly say to your friends you have to go and meet another friend(say this loud enough for the teacher to hear) and bolt out of the classroom as fast as your legs will let you go, bolt through the door, down the stairs and out of the building at this continuous speed. (by this time you will be well away from the classroom and the teacher, then and only then can you slow down and breathe)
this works for me most days but that is because my teacher is a psyco.
or you could just do it during the lesson whilst the teacher is not watching(this works for me too)
have fun :D

You lost a piece of homework. You have two choices: you could be honest about it and feel foolish for a few seconds and then be more careful next time or you could learn to lie about it and let lying get easier and easier until you never do any homework at all and end up a drunken bum asking for change on streetcorners and having nowhere and no one left to turn to.
But don't let me influence your choice...my dog ate all my homework. Do you have 50 cents?

tell your teacher that your mom has been having money problems lately and the electricity got cut off so you could not do your homework in the evening because you weren't able to put the lights on. Cry a little and tell her you are so embarrassed the other kids may find out and she may even slip you a bit of cash for your trouble

Being as honest as possible, your question says you're looking to make up an excuse - essentially a lie - and you need help in formulating a convincing one. The question invites ridicule and all the answers you don't want to hear.
Then your brief paragraph seems to say you take the matter seriously and don't know how to handle it. It's a very mixed message. It makes it difficult for anyone to provide a suitable answer.
