Hard wiring for survival. Given the fact that until VERY recently, many women died in childbirth and many babies born did not live to adulthood, we are hardwired to "procreate" in order to conitue the existence of our species.
Problem: we are too stupid and vain to control the rate of reproduction. Even wolves instinctively know when they can allow more than the alpha couple to mate and when they can't.
Humans are mindless idiots only concerned with self gratification.

Probably to insure the perpetuation of the human race. When God created us, he made the act of procreation a pleasurable one. He also gave us a free will to utilize in whatever way was pleasing to Him. Unfortunately, most of us make better use of our randiness than we do of our common sense, which is an element of that free will. We have a much harder time keeping our primal instincts in check, or using them appropriately, than God anticipated. Therefore, we are a randy species. I hate to say it, but some of us are no different than the animal species in that respect, who go around procreating at random, or performing the act that leads to procreation, without giving any thought to the consequences. In order to change that system around, we have to give more thought to the way our minds control our actions, rather than the way our actions control our minds.

Very basic humankind need. To spread our seed, where-ever and when-ever the opportunity may arise.
Fleeting thoughts may also trigger 'randi-ness' which may result in a happy mr, or mrs. Or a basic need to feel satisfied and at peace with the world.
Well, that's what i tell her anyway!

the ape family and dolphins are the only animals who only have sex for pleasure. If we did not feel randy by looking at people i suppose we would never fancy going all the way and then we would not enjoy sex it would just be a act of reproduction like the rest of the animal kingdom. 'how sad'

From the point of view of my faith it is because man allowed sin to corrupt what God had made beautiful... a portion of that beauty can be regainded if some effort is made.
