It was the night Bret Hart lost the WWE title to HBK at Survivor Series in Montreal.It was Bret Harts last match in the WWE. He had a gentleman's agreement that he wouldn't lose the title to HBK due to it being in Canada, and that he would hand over the title in a farewell thing the next night on RAW.Instead Vince came down to ringside during the match and when Shawn applied the Sharp Shooter to Bret Vince yelled "RING THE DAMN BELL" so HBK won the title due to Vince screwing Bret. Later Bret went into Vince's office and knocked him out cold. HBK said he didn't know that was supposed to happen. Later it came out that HBK knew all along of what was supposed to happen. Vince stated it was for the best intrest of his business. Since Bret was going to WCW.

From I heard, Bret didn't like where the WWF was going at time, and at Survivor Series 1997 was going to be his last match, and hand over the WWF title the following night on Raw to Shawn
Micheals, but during the match Shawn Micheals put Bret in the Sharp Shooter, and the Ref Earl Hebner called for the bell early, even though Bret Didn't tap or say "I quit" and it was called the "Montreal Screwjob"

An incident that occured during the 1997 Survivor Series in Montreal that featured a match for the WWE (which was then the WWF) Title between Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels that had the Chairman Vince McMahon instructing Referee Earl Hebner to end the match prematurely & making Bret Hart lose the title to Shawn Michaels. Bret Hart was screwed from this match & after that he left to join WCW days later after the incident.

it was the match between Bret hart and Shawn Michale's for the WWf Championship. it was Bret's last match b4 he went to wcw and it was in his own town. Bret wanted to win the match, but Vince wanted Bret to put over Shawn. so in the middle of the match Bret decides he's not going to lose the match, so when the finish came, Bret just kicked out of it. so Shawn and Bret kept wrestling until Vince came out. Shawn had Bret in harts own submission move and Vince told the bell ringer to ring the bell. so he did. the announcer said Bret tapped out but Bret never did. the fans went crazy and booed, and Bret spit in Vince's face and went on a rampage destroying the announce table. backstage Bret punched Vince in the face causing Vince to have a black eye. it's an infamous moment to this day, but some people including me think it was all a work(meaning it was planned)

It's where Bret Hart lost his WWF Championship to HBK. You see, he didnt want to lose the match because he's egotistical and a big baby. Vince, at first, was gonna let him win but changed his mind without telling Bret. So Bret has been crying ever since!

that was when vince set it up for hbk to win over bret hart in hart's home town. because hart was quitting. everyone blames hbk but he only did what the boss told him to do.
