More expensive is not necessarily better. Intel or AMD is not necessarily better. I would not limit myself to the processor chip. Instead, look at the computer as a whole, and start looking at the options that you really want. Wide Screen, Light weight, Big Screen, DVD Burner, Available Docking station or Port Replicator. Battery life and charging cycle.

You've decided on a laptop, but do you really need it? Laptops are more delicate, more expensive to upgrade, more expensive to repair. They break often, and are the MOST STOLEN item in America. Drug users can turn them into CASH, often advertising with a throw away pre-paid Cell phone number.

But if you are hell-bent on a laptop, then look at Toshiba first. Their keyboard/mousepad construction is SOLID, their screens are well designed and resist breaking. Their tech support is awesome. Dell, on the other hand, break easily and we all know about their EXPLODING BATTERY. HP would be a good second choice.

That would be a personal preference no matter who answers. I prefer AMD and have always used AMD when building a system. Other would choose Intel. Best thing to do is try to find the most for your money. Some Intel laptops and pc's can be a bit cheaper.

Depends how much money you want to spend. The Duo core will be the most expensive..the Centrino and AMD 64 should work fine for most applications.
Get enough RAM...minimum of 512....1gb is better. Get the longer life battery also..more cells = more hours life.

Where are you going to use it for?

e.g. school, business, or just for personal use?
