its called a tremolo arm/bar, aka whammy bar...its used to change the pitch of a sound, you probably hear it all the time in music and just don't notice it..it's pretty cool to use.

I'm not sure what you are talking about excatly, but I will take a guess. If it is a lever looking thing that screws into the front of the guitar, it is a whammy bar. When you wiggle this thing it bends the sound waves to have a cool sound effect. A lot of people don't use it because it can knock your guitar out of tune.

It's called a vibrato or "whammy bar". When pushed down it lowers the pitch of the note or chord and when pulled up it raises the pitch. As most Strat owners will tell you it makes you sound like God, or at least Hendrix. Make sure that when you manipulate the gadget, that it doesn't detune the guitar. That means you have a cheap axe on your hands, or the guitar has a bad set up and needs work to be done on it. Go to the music shop with someone you knows that plays and I'm sure they'll help you pick a winner.

It's a tremolo bar, often referred to by players as a "whammy bar." It attaches directly to the bridge of your guitar so you can bend notes up or way down without using your fingers. Joe Satriani and Eddie Van Halen use them extensively, as do other professional guitar players. WARNING: You have to be careful not to put any pressure on that bar while you're playing because it can pull your guitar out of tune, so unscrew it until it just hangs there on its own. Then you can let it flop in the breeze while you're playing and still reach down and grab it when you want to use it.

it's called a tremolo bar. It increases or decreases the string tension, thus making a note rise or lower in pitch. Check out some Joe Satriani videos, he's a monster with that thing.

its called a tremolo arm officially or a whammy bar around guitar players. It give you a lot of vibrato. You should get a "locking" tremolo if you intend to use it a lot
