As far as I know, no one is sure what causes babies to hiccup. What I can tell you is that they are quite common in newborns--sometimes beginning even before birth--and that they tend to cause parents far more distress than they do the babies themselves.
--how to get rid of them--is actually that you don't have to anything. You can consider your baby's hiccups as just another newborn reflex that will gradually become less frequent and eventually go away.
If you feel the need to do something, Pediatrics suggests mixing up 1/4 teaspoon of sugar in four ounces of water and offering a few sucks. Can't say that I had great success with this method, but you can decide if it's worth a try. GOOD LUCK TO YOU

I don't know if it's normal but when I was pregnant my baby had the hiccups pretty often and that was a funny feeling also as an infant she had them, we even caught some on video and we would just watch her and laugh because she was too precious. Still to this day she has hiccups, not quite as often as then and my child is now 14. I can't imagine that it can be harmful in any way. Congratulations and enjoy your new baby.

It's normal, & It's NOT funny @ all.
It really sucks to have the hiccupps
they usually get the hiccupps when they are wet change his/her diaper & If the baby is dry make sure the baby is warm. They also get hiccupps when they are cold. Make sure you have socks, hand mittens and a hat on then wrap them in the receiving blanket and hold the baby close to your body. They will go away trust me i've done it for all three of mine. My youngest 2weeks&5days
Good Luck and God Bless your little one!

It is very normal and just let them be. The hiccups aren't bothering your child or hurting him/her. A lot of people are going to give you crazy ideas on how to get rid of them, but it's best to let the child be they will go away after a while. Enjoy the little one. I always thought it was cute when my kids had the hiccups.

Yes they are normal. Hiccups means your baby is growing. A one week old you really can't do nothing about the hiccups. Just make sure the baby isn't getting no air through the nipple. It's when they turn 9 months hiccups bothers them. Good Luck and congrats!

NORMAL! My daughter had hiccups all the time. She even had them when I was pregnant with her. All day long I would feel her little movements because of the hiccups. It's cute and dont worry it's not causing them discomfort at all!
