I would like to uproot my family out of over-priced CA to a more affordable state. The company I work for doesn't have many openings for professional level employees out of the state. I haven't had to look for a new job since I left college 12 years ago. What's the most efficient way to find employers looking for professional job candidates?

Where are you looking to move? The Texas Workforce Commission has a great site (www.workintexas.com). You can post a resume on it, and get the site to send you e-mail notifications when you match a listed job.... I will betcha that Texas is not the only state with such a site. I will also tell you that if you're looking in Texas, don't limit yourself to a single region because for example, San Antonio has lots of science jobs but no lawyer jobs -- whereas Austin has lots of lawyer jobs and not much science....And I will tell you that things are pretty good in Texas and I am SOOOO happy to be out of California for EVER...good luck to you!

Where in CA are you? I know it is tempting to move out of state, but I think a career change is better, which it looks like you are already preparing for. Unless of course you absolutely hate it here. I live in the OC LA area and there are plenty of jobs around here that pay good money. Monster.com is ok, as well as Careerbuilder but the response is usually from people like primerica or temp agencies. craigslist.org is pretty good because those people are more serious. The problem with moving out of state unless you move to charlotte, nc or dallas, tx is that as cost of living goes down so does your average pay rate. that is something that salary.com (i think) is pretty good for. hope that helps :)

I would suggest checking the Internet for jobs in the state you wish to live in. The California government has a site called 'Cal jobs' and you might be able to find something similar by going to the state websites of the particular states you're interested in moving to.

hotjobs.com, or monster.com. They both work really well.
