This is a combination, not a permutation, because a team made of Tom, Dick, and Harry is exactly the same as a team made of Tom, Harry, and Dick. (Conversely, in permutation, the word "top" is different from "pot.") The formula for nCk (or "choose k from n") is n! / (k! * (n-k)!). In this case, that's 9! / (3! * 6!).
