I've had 5 deliveries of my own. Each one different.Only one medicated. He was a emergency C-section.1st one I had heard so many horror stories I was still waiting for the horror to kick in after I heard her squawking. It kicked in first time a nurse come to massage my tummy to help contract uterus back to size. My claim to horror suffering pain would be from this, all five times!
I think that your general muscle condition, rest before labor, pain threshold level (unless I can zone out on TV,book or anything real engrossing,...I have a hard time with pain) factors in. If pain meds make you real groggy and uncomfortable when trying to do something,...I do not recommend its use during labor. Epi's are great for most who can not deal with pain. Getting tired is what I found to cause pain to seem worse. Yes, it does become more intense as you progress. If the Pits drip is used to induce, it can cause a higher sensitivity, also if not aware, can increase chances of hyperventilation! I did,and freaked out cussing,threatening,etc... yet laughed each time That bundle of joy came shooting out like a high powered screwdriver in reverse was attached to the baby!

If it's natural, you gonna have to roll with the punches hon; I had two of mine while still in the Air Force, and they barely gave you any meds, just enough to push that kid outta you; If it's C section, that's a whole other ball game; they basically put you in surgery, cut you open, and pull the baby out; since I did it natural, it was no picnic the first time; your body may break water(may not); that's the start of it, then you'll have pains depending on how far you are in the childbrith process; I heard they hook you up with drugs to help you bring them out but you just be pushing but not feeling a thing; Once you dialate 7-10 cm for the kid to come out, that is your hardest labor; you'll get tired of the lamaze stuff, you'll just want to end this thing, that is my experience. My advice is to prepare in advance; take some cranberry tea through pregnancy(helps in the delivery process, made it easier the second time around, honest) and go for what u know!! The book, "What to Expect when Your Expecting" was a great book for me while pregnant.

After 36 hours of screaming for mercy, i decided to remember what it felt like so I would NEVER do it again. It felt like someone had a sharp knife scraping my insides/cervix. That's the description I came up with but apparently it wasnt a good enough one, I did it two more times.:) The reward was greater than the price.

The person you talked to must have had drugs! I had one of my kids with no drugs at all, (the other 3 I had a muscle relaxer, for all the good THAT did). It's, literally, like trying to push the earth a few inches. It's like sticking an umbrella in, opening it, and pulling it back out. It is hell on earth, but it is all forgotten the second that baby is out.

boy did someone lie to you. i went through sixteen hours of hell in the delivery room pushing and waiting just to get a child into this world. if you really want to know what its like have someone to punch you in the back multiple times at the same time have another person kick you in the stomach and the groin. this is what it felt like during. then after that have someone hit you in the groin with an ax. then you will know what labor feels like the natural way.

I said my first "4 letter curse word" with the birth of my first child.
I can now safely say I have used at least four curse words in my life because I have given birth 4 times.

Your body (contracting uterus) is pushing a a seven to ten pound solid mass out of a 5 to 10 cm opening.
If you have ever been severly constipated, imagine trying to pass a bowling ball

I'm sure that someone is a man.
It hurts so much that you get desperate. It hurts so much you forget to breath. It hurts so much that when the baby is out and the placenta has to come out is nothing...
I think thw worst thing is that after you have suffered and raised the kid, then comes puberty!!!! Aaaahhh.... Like another on you answer list. That's why I only have one!

Have you ever experienced a pain that you hardly could stand on your legs?
That's only a beginning of the whole story...
Because there is a baby coming after that, someone could say it wasn't that bad, I guess.

It's different for every woman depending on her pain tolerance and how difficult the labor is.
I know if I ever get pregnant, at the time of delivery they can knock me out and wake me up when it's over.
