HOUSTON - NASA cleared Atlantis for a Thursday landing after finding that the space shuttle appeared undamaged and concluding that unexplained space debris did not pose a serious problem. (Any takers on what the space debris may have been?)

i think you might be onto something there. or possibly it was minature aliens from pluto coming to complain about science dissing their planet AND complaining about being continually pelted with poo meteorites.

According to one source, the briefing indicated it was tile shim - small pieces used to align the heat shield tiles when they are installed/replaced on the Shuttle. Someone probably forgot to remove it during the assembly (I'm guessing, mind you...)
