I'm not sure what answer you are seeking. You may want to reword the question. My best guess is this:

Every play takes away one of four downs. If you gain ten yards within four downs you obtain a first down. The field is 100 yards long from goal line to goal line.

Hope this helps. :)

The question should be phrased, How many yards are there to get a first down. The answer is the team on offense has four sets of downs to advance 10 yards either by pass or by run of which either play will result in a loss of a down if the plays do not advance 10 yards. Once you get 10 yards you get another set of 4 downs. If you do not advance 10 yards after your third try, the offense on most occasions will punt you can ask what punt means in another question.

If by first run you mean, right after a first down then there is ten yards to the next first down, and 4 chances to make those ten yards

That would be as far as the runner can advance the ball. Could be a loss of yards or a gain of yards, depending on how well the lineman block and the runner sees the defense.

Your question is a little vague, but the first run of the game, like any run in a game is determined by how far the runner gets.
