Noticed the last 3 or 4 times that I have moved my bowels there has been a clear jelly like discharge around my anus. After one movement there was a lot...covered the toilet roll, and slipped onto my hand. I have had no other symptoms although have been constipated recently. What could it possibly be?

It sounds like it is just a normal body function kicked in to prevent injury or damage to the rectal/anal area due to the constipation and/or hard stools. The intestines are lined with a mucus layer to assist with easier movement of bowel to the anus. What you are seeing when you wipe is probably an excess of mucus that the body has produced in response to the constipation. I would only be concerned or feel the need to call my MD if the problem continually gets worse, there is a color, or a foul smell.

sounds like IBS Irratable Bowel Syndrome, mucous in your poo is a common sign and constipation too. i have it and i get those symptoms, see your doctor as there is medication for it and also to rule out any other number of things. IBS isnt serious by the way in case you were wondering.
