your urine gets dark, you may feel nauseated or have a head ache.

Drinking alcohol will dehydrate you. You will be thirsty & your urine will be dark because it is so concentrated. Drink lots of fluids. You should have to urinate about every 2 hours - especially if you are female. Your tongue will pink up with good diet, hydration & brush it gently when you brush your teeth.
Go easy on the alcohol - look what it did to you!

My doctor told me that the best sign of dehydration is that you actually stop being thirsty. I know it sounds weird (believe me, I looked at him funny when he said it) but he said that that is the best sign of being dehydrated. What do you mean your tongue looks weird? If it's just coated, that's probably a good sign of sinus drainage or even not brushing your teeth properly. There are many causes for tongue discoloration and coatings.

OK,,,,one of the first and obvious sign is THIRST. and yes the other ppl are right about the dark urine=meaning its concentrated, about the skin thing the first person said-that is a sign, but it wouldn't be obvious until you're really dehydrated. I suggest not letting yourself get dehydrated. You can get seriously sick!

You are dehydrated when you are thirsty. Drink water constantly. Usually dry mouth.

Among the signs and symptoms you may look for in dehyration are:

1. the amount of weight loss, which usually correlates to how dehydrated a child is (so 5 percent weight loss likely means that they are 5 percent dehydrated)
2. how often and how much they are urinating (children with diabetes may continue to urinate frequently, even when they are severely dehydrated, so this isn't always a reliable sign)
the presence of tears, a moist mouth and tongue, and whether or not their eyes are sunken
3. capillary refill (briefly press on your nail bed so that it blanches or turns white, and see how long it takes to return to normal)
4. skin fold recall or skin turgor test (gently pinch skin on your abdomen, hold it for a few seconds and then let it go to see how long it takes to return to the normal position)

Symptoms of Minimal Dehydration

normal thirst or may refuse some liquids
a moist mouth and tongue
normal to slightly decreased urine output
less than 3 percent weight loss
normal heart rate, pulses, breathing, and warm extremities
capillary refill less than 2 seconds
instant recoil on skin turgor test
eyes not sunken (and/or fontanel in a baby)

Symptoms of Mild to Moderate Dehydration

feel tired, restless, and irritable,Other signs and symptoms of mild to moderate dehydration include:
1. increased thirst
2. a dry mouth and tongue
3. decreased urine output
4. 3 to 9 percent weight loss
5. normal to increased heart rate and pulses, normal to fast breathing, and cool extremities
6. capillary refill greater than 2 seconds
7. recoil on skin turgor test in less than 2 seconds
8. slightly sunken eyes (and/or fontanel in a baby)

Symptoms of Severe Dehydration

Severe dehydration is a medical emergency and you should seek immediate medical attention.
appearing lethargic (meaning difficult to keep awake) or may be unconscious.
also may have:

1. poor drinking or may be unable to drink
2. a parched mouth and tongue
3. minimal or no urine output
4. greater than 9 percent weight loss
5. increased heart rate, weak pulses, deep breathing, and cool, mottled extremities
6. capillary refill that is very prolonged or minimal
7. recoil on skin turgor test in more than 2 seconds
8. deeply sunken eyes

Dryness in your tongue and throat, your skin could get simply dry or wrinkly (specially when you grab it and it seems it doesn't go back to how it was), headaches or aches all over your body.
Some people may get moody or even dizzy.
