I think most professional sports players are overpaid. A-Rod, for instance, makes an average of $15,000 for each at bat he has, whether he strikes out or hits a home run. And this is not for teaching physics in college or running a corporation--this is for playing a game!!!!
Even if you take someone like Mickey Mantle or WIllie Mays from the 50s and 60s--their highest salary was around $120,000 a year and even if converted to today's value, that would be around one million or so. Most 10 game winners or .260 players today make more than that.
Thr Yankees most likely have the highest payroll, but if society is fine with paying out amazing amounts for its entertainment pleasure, well, that's how it goes.

The New York Yankees is a business, just like every sports franchise. The Yankees, over the years, have accumulated enough money to buy good players. With good players, you win. With wins, you get an audience, with an audience, you get money, more money than you've spent. Look at the Royals, They can't spend money for players, they lose, and nobody comes to the park, and they are poor. They are not playing to make everybody the same price so its fair to the fans, they are playing to win, so they can make money.

I think that professional baseball players are overpaid in general.
I love the fact that Mariano Rivera doesn't ask for more than $10 million a year, even though Steinbrenner would pay him more if he wanted a higher salary.

no they are the best players in the game, with an owner who only cares about winning...they are in the biggest media market in the world, they own their own TV station (YES), and have the most fans all over the country...i love how everyone hates the Yankees because they are jealous their team couldn't be more like them...

no they are in the biggest market in the united states.. they also have alot more people to worry about.. alot less privacy.. and a higher chance of being contacted by stalkers and such.. they also play extremely well every year and have huge expectations.. they put more asses in the seats so they will reap the benefits of it...
