just write it out:

x+y= 30

8x = 6+5y

you can then get one integer by itself:

x= 30-y

and replace it in the second equation:

8(30-y)=6+5y

then just solve for y, replace y with its value in the first equation and solve for x.

Let's say x = smaller and y = larger
Use each sentence to write an equation.

The sum of two integers is 30: x + y = 30
Eight times the smaller is six more than 5 times the larger:
8x = 6+ 5y.

You can change the first equation to x = 30 -y, and then substitute for x in the second equation.

8(30 - y) = 6 + 5y. Now you only have one variable. Once you find the answer for y, find out what other number would make the sum 30.

You need to write out the problems with variables... I'll get you started. YOU need to work it out and YOU need to post what you think the answers are.

Let X = smaller integer
Let Y = larger integer

The first sentence is --- X + Y = 30

The second sentence is --- 8X = 5Y + 6

x+y=30
8x=5y+6 so solve for y in the first equation
y=30-x put this answer into the second equation
8x=5(30-x)+6
8x=150-5x+6
13x=156
x=12
y=18
