Ok, first of all, I have to say that your comment, "I stand behind our president, as any good citizen should", is not a healthy view of what a "good citizen should" be doing. At least, not in the America I grew up in. Free thought, free speech, free press, freedom to assemble in peaceful protest, that is the stuff of a great country. You have the right to stand behind anybody you want, but "as any good citizen should" is a dangerous statement. Do you get what I mean? Whew, good, now why did Chavez call Bush the devil? You know, I did not see the speech, and have not yet had the chance to see it. I think there is kind of a growing worldwide Bush-hating bravado that made Chavez think calling the president of the U.S.A. "the devil" would be the hip and happening thing to do. But Chavez is an idiot in his own right, and I don't think we need to care what he jabbers about, to anyone. What we need to look at is this, is it possible that other, more influential leaders who still want to look dignified, could have encouraged Chavez? How much more *hit do we have to eat before we realize we are eating *hit? I think the world is trying to send us a message, which is as you said quite well, it's time to give the Dems another go. Or the Independents, or anybody who can dismantle this giant oil sucking dinosaur we're stuck with right now, and build up an America we can truly stand behind. Thanks for your question, you make an excellent point.

This "leader" has openly, and publicly stated he wants to personally bring down the USA. He will do and say anything to help bring this goal of his about. Bush lover or no, this is your country damn it. The fact that bashing the leader of our country has become a fad is sickening. The fact that a movie has been made on the curtails of free speech about the death of our sitting President disgusts me. I was no Clinton fan, but I wouldn't even have considered telling a joke even about his death. This is completely out of control. You people don't seem to realize how serious this is. The dictators of the world, the ones who truly have world leadership on their minds, are thriving on all this anti America rhetoric that is being regurgitated all over this country through liberal media and the mouths of young people who don't even understand the way government works. They just jump on the bandwagon. What may seem like just you exercising your free speech, could really hurt our country in the long run. Do you think sweet Christian Chavez would let you bash him relentlessly publicly? Do you think poor innocent Saddam would let a show like SNL mock him on a weekly basis? Appreciate what you have in this country people. Most of you are too young to appreciate what you have yet.
Also, you're right, a Democrat wouldn't do ANYTHING while in office. Clinton didn't do one thing while he was in office.

Well...that was a bit of a rant, now wasn't it?
Okay - speaking for myself, I respect the office of the president.
But I also believe (and have the right to believe) that President Bush has really mucked things up in our country.
I stop short of calling him a f*ck-up, because I respect the office...but what else can one say about the state of our nation (i.e., health care, welfare, education, economy) and the state of the world (where is Osama...what about those WMD's and Saddams' link to al Qaeda?).
Would a Democrat do better?
Who the hell knows.
One thing is clear – we need to clean out the buffoons in the White Hoouse, Congress and the Supreme Court.
It’s getting weird out there!
So I'm done with my rant...back to your original question.
What Chavez did was a lot like the pot calling the kettle black.
This man has f*cked up him own nation - check out the unemployment and poverty rate of Venezuela...it almost looks like the United States (okay, so I exaggerate a bit).
Anyway - the evil-doer Chavez rightly accused Bush of acting as if Bush was the owner of the world.
And whether you are on the left or right, you cannot deny that Bush has more than a smidgen of arrogance about his character.
But the other part of the story is that Chavez would love to be the owner of the world...so, I detect a degree of jealousy here.
Everybody wants to rule the world.

Wow... I too as a republican "lifelong" republican have been on here for weeks now doing battle with people that are blindly loyal to an administration that I feel.. does not have our nations best interest at heart..more over it would seem that "W" and his cabinet are bent on something entirely more unscrupulous .. They have managed in 6 years to turn America the once "beacon" of Free market democracy into the oil hording war driven monster that it is now so often considered in the global court of public opinion. Again I have people on here all the time say things like " I don't care who thinks what of us.. Nuke em all " ???? That is not what we are supposed to be about .... we have lost our way and for the time being I have cut my ties with all things Republican and Stand as a true independent.. I may just Vote green party this next time around.
As your question said.. at least when the Dem's had some control we seemed to maintain our civility .. it's a shame.

This may to radical for you but it is the truth. George W. Bush is a coke snorting alcoholic, with no morals that somebody has groomed along the way to appeal to the religious right. He speaks a good race but in actuality he has hurt this country both here and abroad. He has hurt the environment and everything that he has done was to favor the rich and the large corporations. He has forgotten or never knew about the middle class and its struggle to survive. Maybe he never knew what it was to be between jobs because your job went overseas. The image over seas is one of a bully. Which I think he is. He will not listen to the American people, he just forges ahead and makes bad decisions.

If you don't think that what happens in other countries does not effect us, then you are very naive. Bush is standing up to terrorists and rough rulers who are harboring and encouraging terrorism. So, Democrats only "screw up things within our borders", do they? If Clinton would have acted like a President and led this country instead of worrying about interns in the White House, we would have had Bin Laden by now. And, I might add, before 9/11 occurred.

i dont htink going democrat will change the underlying agendas but maybe a different president would be more tactful ... the world is moving towards globalization and the "new world order" in a very real way ... and from what i understand venezuela is one of the last countries that are really resisting the globalists....

Why don't we cut the money flow? We send too much out and get little in return.
As for the United Nation...what an expensive joke! We need to dismantle it and keep the money WE use to support it...for ourselves.
In the old Pisca National Forest near Asheville, NC, there are signs which read
"This property is under the direction and juridiction of the United Nations"
I have seen the signs...but locals tear them down about as fast as they go up.
Why would the United Nations now own parts of the United States? Are they taking it as lien for "monies we owe them"?
