We are not a monolingual country, people speak many different languages, but I am monolingual, I can only speak one. But English is our dominate language, and the language of our Nation. We are not Monocultural we have a great diversity of cultures roled into one, the American culture, so we are neither.

As to the first, goodness no! It is the very fact that English embraces and incorporates fabulous words like "coup d'etat", "mukluk" and "kindergarten" that makes it so wonderful!
As for the second, I'm afraid that the answer is yes--while it is becoming less so, there's a great deal of back-lash against this development.

You merely use the term as it is.American English will accept any term and make it its own.Coup de tat and VolksKrieg are already in the American lexicon of usage.
At least for some of us they are.
The Germans pluck an American word up and use it as is --just as we do.
VolksKrieg will not translate precisely and it must be interpreted by the speaker and listener.Peoples War or Peoples Army would be as close as I can come.
Coup de tat is already a mainlined term in American English.

That is how we say it just like you spelled it. There is no language that can be perfectly translated into another without some interpretation. We may not have exact words but we can relay the meaning.

not sure about the other two, but "Volks Krieg" means "People War". I speak a little of a few languages, so I would say on the whole America is multicultural.
