My father was in the military for 22 years. I don't know exactly what kind of problems you are having but maybe you should consider talking to your wife about it or even getting some counseling. I know you are a man and a man in the military but that's a stressful and demanding job and it's okay that you might need some mentally rehabilitation.
My father and I never really had that close of a relationship b/c he was TDY a lot. He was more of a friend than a father. Now, however, I'm 22 and married. Before I got married he asked me if I regretted our life. I told him NO and that I was extremely proud of him.
The profession you have chosen or that was laid out in front of you is very honorable and difficult. Some appreciate it and some don't. Military wives have it hard. I saw my mom go through a lot. That's why I'm saying y'all should be open to some counseling. Communication is a great thing and it will really take all of the work off of your shoulders.
I hope you find an answer that helps you. I really do feel for you and your family. Do know that no matter what you wife and son think, they are proud of you and admire you.
Good Luck with everything Hon!

Go to your unit's chaplain or make an appointment to see a doctor at your hospital unit. They will help you find the answers you need. You didn't say how long you had left on your enlistment, but it isn't as long as a sentence in Leavenworth prison would be, which is what could happen if you don't get some professional help. If the situation is bad enough, they might help you get a "hardship discharge" or if you really are a mental case, you could get a medical discharge. Whatever the case, don't take any other action than to seek out those who can help you. That's why they are there. You didn't say if you were out of the U.S. Have you talked to your CO? Maybe he could get you a furlough to visit your family. You are allowed 30 days paid leave each year. Have you used any of it? There are many things that can be done that are legal and will help you. Seek out help from those within the system. They are there to help.
